Not safe to trade anymore

Not safe to trade anymore as House vote is expected at 6 or 7pm EDT
We speculate that S&P 500 will close below or around 1680 today & rebound tomorrow when US government shutdown is averted or most likely delayed for at least a week
But we do not trade on speculations alone as it's too risky & stocks are very volatile now, wait for a confirmation before trading

Buy S&P 500- won

Buy S&P 500 @ 1680 if it breaks & stays above, for less than 30 minutes expiration

Result: won
S&P 500 expired @ 1682.39 at 10:30am & 1683.93 at 11:00am EDT

Buy Apple- won

Buy Apple around 476 for 30 minutes expiration
Result: won

Apple expired @ 478.75 at 10:30am EDT

Stock Market Analysis

Stocks are too low, economic news was good, stocks should slightly go up, at least temporarily
The market is also looking to go up for now
Look to buy stocks for short term expiration

Buy S&P 500 @ 1680

Buy S&P 500 @ 1680 if it breaks & stays above, for less than 30 minutes expiration

Buy Apple @ 476

Buy Apple around 476 for 30 minutes expiration

Carl Icahn will have dinner with Apple CEO Tim Cook tonight to discuss share buybacks

Will US government shutdown?

Stocks are falling as US government shutdown at midnight tonight seems more likely
Republicans and Democrats are not compromising in their political battle even though they do not want it to happen
Both sides are trying to blame the other even before a shutdown happens instead of negotiating for a proper solution

Democrats: "Tomorrow, the Senate will do exactly what we said we would do and reject these measures"
"At that point, Republicans will be faced with the same choice they have always faced: put the Senate's clean funding bill on the floor and let it pass with bipartisan votes, or force a Republican government shutdown."

Republicans: "I personally believe that Senator Reid and the president, for political purposes, want to shut down the government"
Although they also said: “We will not shut the government down, if we have to negotiate a little longer, we will continue to negotiate.”

It seems that the only hope is that the Republicans will have no choice but to compromise & lose this political battle to avert a government shutdown because they show that they are willing to negotiate but the Democrats are not

Conclusion: US government shutdown will not happen if they focus on what's more important & do what's good for the country
Stocks should fluctuate today because they should continue dropping but it's already too low
If the shutdown is avoided at the last minute, stocks should rebound & it'll be a good time to buy
Trade less before that to protect your investment

Although it might still drop again as 1690 is weak, it's not safe to trade anymore as it managed to break above 1690 & 1690 is not a strong resistance as 1700 is
It might also try to rebound back to 1700

Stock Market Analysis

Obama said that a government shutdown won't happen on his watch
Yesterday, S&P 500 rose to 1698.67 at the end of the day, breaking the longest losing streak of the year
However, S&P Futures shows that S&P 500 later broke above 1700 but failed to stay above again & dropped even more, non-stop to around 1690 now
People are still concerned about the ongoing budget negotiations & debt ceiling that might lead to a government shutdown
Fed's Evans said that there's a decent chance that taper might happen in October or December but could be pushed into 2014, causing more confusion about tapering

The US Senates plan to vote today on a spending bill, 3 more Fed officials will speak later, Friday tends to be the most volatile day of the week, especially near end of month & when government shutdown is at risk
Trade less or none at all today to protect your investment, trading today will be highly risky as there are too many concerns, confusion & uncertainties in the market

Trading Signals to watch

Trading Signals to watch:
Yesterday, S&P 500 rebounded around 1692.5 twice but it's not a support, it also broke & barely stayed above 1700 for 1 hour before dropping
Look to buy S&P 500 @ 1700 if it breaks & stays above 1700 again, for less than 30 minutes expiration
Risk: Support @ 1700 is weak & can be broken anytime, only trade if it looks strong enough to at least hold for a while

Stock Market Analysis

S&P 500 dropped for the 5th day in a row, the longest losing streak this year
S&P Futures shows that stocks are trying to rebound today but there are still reasons to be cautious
There are still concerns about America's economic recovery, QE tapering, too much debt & risk of government shutdown
Trading will be riskier until these problems are solved
There might also be sudden high impact news that can change the whole market

Market Psychology:
Not many people will be willing to buy more stocks because of those problems
But since stocks are oversold for the 5th day, bargain hunters can be willing to buy stocks at a low price & push stocks up while others hold their stocks, not sure whether to buy or sell because of uncertainties

Conclusion: It's possible for stocks to rebound & go higher but there will be strong resistances
If it fails to break & stay above resistances for a long time, it should drop more like it did yesterday

More Americans are losing faith in the economy's recovery
Only 27% expect the economy to be stronger next year (down from 39%), 44% unchanged & 28% weaker
They also continue to worry about tapering, the Fed's budget, debt ceiling & risk of government shutdown
Trading will be riskier as economic data was weak too
Stocks should drop today but might also rebound after dropping for 4 consecutive days & being oversold

Stock Market Analysis & Trading Signals to Watch

It would be safer to trade until 12pm EDT today as FOMC members will speak after 12:30pm & there should be more volatility near end of the day/week
A pullback happened yesterday as we expected
S&P 500 should trade within the range of 1720-1730 today but it's not confirmed yet until we see market movement
Look to buy S&P 500 @ 1720 & sell @ 1730 for 30 minutes expiration

Remember yesterday when we said that "Apple should stay above 470 & reach 473-475 today if it wants a strong bullish pattern for the next few days"
It did & stayed @ 475 for a long time, but dropped at the end of the day, showing that Apple is not quite strong yet
But Apple's new iPhones are on sale now & its sales are estimated to hit a record of 6 million
This helped strengthen Apple & it should be reaching 480 today but 480 might be too high for now
Look to buy Apple @ 475 or 480 (higher risk) if it stays above, for end of day expiration
Apple also normally posts opening-weekend sales figure on Monday
Look forward to trading Apple on Monday too

Look to buy Google @ 900 if it breaks & stays above 900, for 30 minutes expiration

Facebook is also upgraded to "outperform" by analysts
Look to buy FB if it rebounds & stays above 46.0
Look to sell FB if it drops below 46.0 & fails to rebound
Risk: No significant news to help push FB into a direction & FB might just stay around 46.0

McDonald's reached 98.0 yesterday, watch & see if it has the strength to stay above today
Look to sell McD if it drops below 98.0 & fails to rebound

Sell S&P 500- won

High risk trade
Sell S&P 500 around 1730 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
Result: won
S&P 500 closed @ 1725.53

We only do high risk trades if we're very confident
1st reason: overbought, 2nd: resistance found @ 1730, 3rd: downtrend started, 4th: traders should also take profit at the end of the day
That was why we were willing to risk selling stocks despite the good news of no taper
We also did not buy in the first place as we were being cautious because it jumped from 1702.44 to 1716.64 in 2 minutes & was overbought

Sell S&P 500 @ 1730

High risk trade
Sell S&P 500 around 1730 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
The Fed did not taper at all, S&P 500 jumped to 1720 then 1730 & is overbought
But resistance found @ 1730, downtrend started
Traders should also take profit at the end of the day
Risk: Traders decide not to take profit today
We are selling stocks despite good news

Stock Market Analysis

Trading today will be at an even higher risk as FOMC statement will be announced today
A light taper of $10 billion is expected, more than $20 billion should result in a huge drop in stocks
Stocks are at an all-time high but still seem to be going up yesterday
There's also the possibility of the market setting up for a huge fall
No clear trend yet as the market remains undecided

S&P 500 closed @ 1704.76
At first it dropped to 1703.65, but then it suddenly went back up

Sell S&P 500 around 1703 if it drops below & fails to rebound for 1 hour expiration

Sell S&P 500 around 1703 if it drops below & fails to rebound for 1 hour expiration
S&P 500 is undecided between 1703-1704, but 1703 looks weaker & stocks shouldn't be too high before FOMC meeting tomorrow
It dropped below 1703 once, if it fails to rebound, it should drop more

Buy Microsoft @ 33.0

Medium risk trade
Buy Microsoft around 33.0 for 12pm EDT expiration
Microsoft announced another $40 billion buyback & an increase in its dividends
Stocks opened too high around 33.4, dropped back below 33.0 & is now rebounding from 33.0
It should be safer to buy now

Risk:
Stocks might drop later today
It dropped below 33.0 so it can drop again, but since it rebounded, it should go up higher for now, at least temporarily

Stock Market Analysis

Investors are cautious today as it awaits Fed's decision about QE tapering tomorrow, so should we
Stock futures dropped 10 points
The market might try to reach 1700 again, but should stay below it at the end of the day if they continue being cautious
Therefore S&P 500 might trade within the range of 1690-1700, with a higher possibility of going down at the end of the day

Sell S&P 500- won

Sell S&P 500 around 1703 for 30 minutes expiration or less
Result: won
S&P 500 expired at 1701.97 @ 1:30pm EDT & dropped even more later
We did not sell more after that since there's still the possibility of it staying barely above or below 1700 & the market gets more volatile near end of day

Sell S&P Futures- lost

Sell S&P Futures around 1700 for 30 minutes expiration (10am EDT) using AnyOption
AnyOption's price is too high now (1702) & should drop back to normal (1694) at expiration because it thinks it'll go higher but it uses real market expiry levels from Reuters

Result: lost
AnyOption's expiry price is 1701.723
Apparently 1700+ was Reuter's real market expiry levels & they provided proof
We're still investigating why there's such a huge price difference between other sites since all claim to follow real market price but from different sources, the price difference shouldn't be too big

This signal is mostly based on the huge price difference
We also saw that it would drop more, at least temporarily & it was quite risky, that's why we chose a very short expiration
But it took a few more minutes than that, dropping a lot from 10:02am to 10:04am & rebounded later
The only reason we issued this risky signal is because we've easily won some trades with extra leverage taking advantage of their price difference if it's too much, because AnyOption's trading price can sometimes be different but it must use real market expiry price

Sell S&P 500 @ 1703

Medium risk trade
Sell S&P 500 around 1703 for 30 minutes expiration or less
Temporary resistance @ 1703
Risk: Support should be around 1700 & might rebound higher later but not too soon

Sell S&P Futures @ 1700

Sell S&P Futures around 1700 for 30 minutes expiration (10am EDT) using AnyOption
AnyOption's price is too high now (1702) & should drop back to normal (1694) at expiration because it thinks it'll go higher but it uses real market expiry levels from Reuters

Bad economic news might help S&P 500 build support @ 1700 because the Fed will decide whether it should start QE tapering at its September 17-18 meeting
But it should not go too high & might just stay barely above 1700 because the decision has not been made
It will be hard to trade today as it is also possible for it to stay barely below 1700 before Fed's decision

Stock Market Analysis

Lawrence Summer withdrew from being a candidate for Federal Reserve chairman
US & Russia reached an agreement to destroy Syria's chemical weapons instead of attacking them

US stock futures shot up to 1700 & might be too high
But the market is trying to build support @ 1700
However, 1700 can also become resistance if it fails to stay above because it's too high
1700 is also a psychological resistance
Federal Reserve officials will also decide at their September 17-18 meeting if they should start QE tapering
So the market might just stay around 1700 & wait for the news before going up higher if there's no QE tapering yet

Not safe to trade today

S&P 500 is building support @ 1687
Although it's still below 1688, it might break above 1690 if the support is strong enough to propel it higher
Not safe to trade today as stocks fluctuate, stocks also tend to have higher volatility on Fridays

Stock Market Analysis

Consumer sentiment was lower as we expected but S&P 500 dropped too fast @ 1687, not even reaching 1690
S&P 500 might be rebounding @ 1682 again but not safe to buy today as most stocks are dropping

Stock Market Analysis

US stocks dropped after a report saying that Lawrence Summers would be replacing Ben Bernanke as Summers is more hawkish & might cutback QE even faster
Later, White House said that the report was wrong & the decision has not been made

Economic news were mostly worse than estimates & we expect consumer confidence to be lower too
On the other hand, worse economic news means QE tapering will be delayed which is good for stocks

Investors are also less fearful about QE tapering, 57% say that they don't expect a sudden change in the market as Ben Bernanke's plan to reduce impact of actual QE tapering by warning investors ahead has worked
But there's still the problem of US not having enough money to pay its bills & US government shutdown is at risk
So the market might be mixed & we should trade less today

Overall, the market wants to go up but statistics say that it should go down
Look to sell S&P 500 around 1690 if it can't break & stay above
It might try to reach 1690 again but should fail to stay above it

Apple should stay above 470 today

Buy Google even after it dropped below yesterday's support @ 891.5
30minutes-1 hour expiration

Trading Signals to watch

Trading today will be at a higher risk because of US debt
Federal Budget Balance at 2pm EDT should be negative as US is in more debt
Sell S&P 500 around 1690 if it stays below, for end of day expiration

However, there are still possible "Buy" trades to be made if stocks rebound
Buy Apple around 465 if it rebounds & stays above
Apple is too low & oversold, support @ 460, 465
Billionaire Icahn bought more Apple stock yesterday when it dropped below 470

Buy Google around 891.5 if it rebounds & stays above

Buy Facebook around 45 if it rebounds & stays above

Facebook set a new record high just above 45 yesterday
Facebook is upgraded to  "Buy"

Buy Yahoo around 29 if it rebounds & stays above
Yahoo reached 800 million monthly active users

Stock Market Analysis

Trading signals to watch

Apple's rebound is confirmed after it reached 470 & is staying there, support @ 465
Although Apple can close around 470 today, 470's not too safe to buy yet & might become resistance for today
Buy Apple around 465 if it drops back to 465 & rebound again, for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
Risk: Apple received triple downgrades today, but support is strong @ 465

Stocks to Watch- Apple

Apple dropped another 20 points to 474 which is oversold
Even though Apple disappointed us yesterday, it's still a strong & profitable company
Let's see if it can rebound today
Apple is also downgraded from buy to neutral, but price target remains at $520

Tuesday 10 September 2013

Buy Apple- 2 losses, Sell Apple- 2 wins

10 September 2013 Trading Signals:
Buy Apple around 500 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
Buy Apple again around 502 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
Hedge & sell Apple (Double) around 496-500 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration

Results: 2 (Buy) losses, 2 (Sell) wins
Apple closed @ 494.64, dropping after the event was over

Apple failed to impress:
Apple's "budget" iPhone will start at $549, disappointing investors
No new Apple TV, iWatch or other surprises either

Hedge & Sell Apple (Double)

Hedge & sell Apple (Double) around 496-500 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
Apple dropped below 500, double top resistance found @ 499

Buy Apple @ 502

Buy Apple again around 502 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
New iPhones are confirmed

Buy Apple @ 500

Medium risk trade:
Buy Apple around 500 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
Risk: Apple dropped from the beginning, 503 seems to be temporary resistance for now, but Apple is also trying to stay above 500 & it should

Stocks to Watch- Apple

Apple's special event is at 1pm EDT today
Apple should stay around 510 if it can live up to the hype
Look to buy Apple around 505-507 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
Risks: Too much hype can result in disappointing easily
Traders might also sell & take profit today
But as long as Apple does unveil new iPhones, that should mean more sales & profit for Apple, so its stock should go up

Monday 9 September 2013

Result: won
Apple closed @ 506.17

We estimate that Apple can reach 510 today, but it's safer to watch 1st & buy around 500 if possible

Friday 6 September 2013

Not safe to trade anymore

Not safe to trade today as things are heating up at the G20 Meeting
Obama stands firm on Syria strike
Russian President said that Russia will help Syria if US strikes Syria
G20 is divided but most are voting against attacking Syria

Speculations:
If UN does not authorize US to attack Syria, Obama might still attack Syria anyway, saying he has the right to do so
Then Russia will attack US & US allies will also retaliate as we mentioned before
As more countries intervene, war might ensue

Buy S&P Futures- lost

Medium risk trade:
Buy S&P Futures around 1659 for 9:30am EDT expiration if it does not drop below
Result: lost
S&P Futures expired at 1659.125, barely above 1659 so we'll count it as a loss
Breaking news: Russia will help Syria if it's attacked
That sent stocks dropping even further to 1642

Look to buy S&P 500 around 1660

Stock Futures are going up because of weak Non-Farm Payrolls data which might delay Quantitative Easing tapering
S&P Futures temporary resistance is now at 1663
Wait for the market to open & look to buy S&P 500 if it stays above 1660

Buy S&P Futures @ 1659

Buy S&P Futures around 1659 for 9:30am EDT expiration if it does not drop below

Buy General Motors around 35.0 for 4pm EDT end of day expiration
GM's vehicle sales beat expectations

Not safe to trade today

Not safe to trade today as S&P 500 went up, forming support around 1648-1650 & might still go up despite Syria worries & bad economic news
It might be setting up for a fall later, after attack on Syria is approved or confirmed

Stock Market Analysis

Obama administration officials are hinting that they might help arm Syrian rebels with weapons to take on rocket launchers which delivered those chemical weapons
However, there are doubts & concerns that arming violent Al-Qaeda extremists can bring any "peace & stability" as Obama stated
A missile strike has also not been ruled out, to punish Syria's use of chemical weapons
As Obama is gaining more support as planned, Russian president will consider approving Syria strike if there's solid evidence

As Syria strike becomes a stronger possibility, arming violent Al-Qaeda extremists becomes a concern & economic news worse than expected, stocks should go down today
Look to sell S&P 500 around 1640 if it drops back as it should stay below 1640
Even if S&P 500 breaks above 1640, there's still a strong possibility of it dropping below 1640 at the end of the day

2nd @ 1648.49 at 11:14am, expired @ 1640.16 at 11:30am

Stock Market Analysis

More than 2 million people have fled Syria
Attack on Syria is delayed as Obama seeks UN authorization, trying to gain more support

Russia detected 2 missiles launched & it caused the market to plunge, only to find out that it was just a missile test by Israel
The market rebounded as no sign of attack against Syria yet provided short term relief
But that doesn't change the fact that Israel is signaling that it's ready to attack

France released an assessment that identified the Syrian government as the only possible culprit for the use of chemical weapons
France might also be ready to attack as it has 900 soldiers in Lebanon, near Syria

S&P 500 should trade in the range of 1640-1650 because of uncertainty
Look to buy around 1640 if it rebounds & sell around 1650 if it drops back

Syria crisis news+ analysis & speculations

Syria crisis news
President Obama decided to seek UN's authorization before attacking Syria despite the fact that it will most likely not be approved because Russia has veto power & supports Syria
Russian president said that claims of Syria using chemical weapons when it's already winning the war to be "utter nonsense", the evidence to be "absolutely unconvincing" & demanded more detailed proof
Syrian government claimed that Al-Qaeda rebels backed & funded by Obama were responsible for the chemical weapons

Analysis & speculations
Obama's decision to seek approval sparked criticisms such as hesitation, doubt, disappointment & a sign of weakness
However, it might just be an act to gain more support especially if he's denied
Obama's intentions to attack Syria ware clear from the beginning but there are strong oppositions against the attack on Syria that might start a world war, so he needs to build up more support first
Arab states has called for international action against Syria & will be supporting Obama
If he attacks without UN approval, he might reiterate that "we cannot tolerate use of chemical weapons & Syria must be taught a lesson or they might do it again"

Obama says that he's war-weary & the attack will just be a statement & not long term
But he should know that Syria's allies especially Russia has already warned against attacking Syria & might retaliate, then more countries might intervene if Russia attacks US, causing more conflicts
There's also a possibility of the evidence being false as Syrian government called US intelligence information "fabrications & lies"
If US attacks Syria based on false evidence, there should also be consequences, unless they provide more solid proof
Therefore, US should use a different approach to send Syria a message if it's indeed guilty instead of military action as attacking Syria will not solve any problems & might cause more trouble

Stock markets closed on holiday

Banks & stock markets are closed as today is Labor Day however most brokers still allow Forex to be traded
Trade less or not trade at all as we expect irregular volatility

S&P 500 might go above 1640 again just because the attack on Syria is delayed
Unfortunately we cannot trade it because of the holiday

On a side note, EUR/USD support @ 1.3210 after good economic news for EUR, resistance @ 1.3223
You can try buying near support & selling near resistance for short term trades but currencies tend to have more volatility especially today so we do not guarantee your trades
Selling will be at a higher risk because the big picture is that EUR should go up & USD should go down today
